Thanks for this! I love Screwball comedies. Do you know any good books about them? I read Stanley Cavell's and found it disappointing.

Thank you so much for reading! I've read James Harvey's Romantic Comedy in Hollywood a few years back and can recommend it for how comprehensive it is. It looks at all romantic comedy from early 1930s through late 1940s so it's a bit broader than just screwball but each chapter focuses on individual directors and stars of the era (e.g. Cary Grant, Irene Dunne, Howard Hawks etc.) who all did screwball at one point or another.

I really enjoyed Cavell's actually.

The little BFI book on Bringing Up Baby is good -- makes a Wodehousian connection.
